Sun Up

July 27, 2009 | Everyday Life

I took this shot last week during my trip from Louisiana to Oklahoma. I drove all night and when the sun came out in the morning, I couldn’t resist stopping to take this shot.

TIM – “The Man Who Stands Still.”

July 13, 2009 | Everyday Life

Meet Tim. I call him “the man who stands still” (I’m still looking for a short version of that ). He’s been performing this act for 14 years and he absolutely loves it. Painting your whole body ain’t no joke like I said in one of my previous posts and standing still for a long time is a totally different ball game. Guys like this, really take it seriously.

One thing that sets Tim apart from his pairs is the fact that he was hired 3 years ago by both the New Orleans Saints football team and Hornets basket ball team to do this at every home game. He’s got some amazing talent of standing ABSOLUTELY still for a long period of time. I had fun talking with him before shooting of-course. These guys are way too cool!

Techincal Stuff (beware) :

A lot of people might think there was some “photoshopping” involved in creating this image but I can honestly say you are wrong :) It was all done in full manual mode on my 40D camera.

When I first saw him, I knew I wanted a different feel to the images I was going to shoot. He was already standing still so there was no point in freezing him and everybody else using a high shutter speed. I saw the way people reacted to him and figured I should show some motion going on while he’s freezing himself for my benefit :)

I shot this @ ISO 100 – 1/5sec, F18, 28mm. As I saw people coming from behind him, I shot a couple of bursts and there you have it. Using a slow shutter speed created the motion blur I needed and also kept my main subject frozen. NO “PHOTOSHOPPING” REQUIRED. I’ve learnt that the best way to shoot is to get it right in camera without thinking of “photoshopping” any part of the image. I added a soft vignette, some contrast and sharpened it before exporting as a JPEG. Pretty simple.

One Year Today

July 2, 2009 | Everyday Life

It’s officially my one year anniversary as a full time Electrical Engineer :) I remember my very first day at work and it was awesome! 4 weeks later, I got moved to Louisiana where I’ve been ever since. Funny thing is, I was supposed to be in Louisiana for four weeks which interestingly has turned into 10 months. Yup! Engineering projects are never predictable. Anything can happen and you definitely have to be opened to move with the flow. I am loving it! I’ve met a lot of people. I work with the most amazing project team. We are like a small family. Thank God for jobs even in the current economic situation.

Here’s one of my all time favorite images. I shot it during my graduation ceremony last year for OU’s yearbook. Everything about this image is just perfect!

Live life to the fullest.
