My name is John Akingbola and I am both a photographer and an electrical engineer. People often tell me that I have two different worlds all mixed up in me and I think that’s way too cool.

I am a young wedding photographer and I picked up my first SLR camera a little over a year ago. It’s amazing what you can do in such a little time with God backing you up.

I had primarily developed myself in lifestyle photography which greatly focused on portraits and events – documenting moments and details as they happen.  

My passion for capturing weddings soon developed in that little time when I shot my first ever engagement session of 2 college friends. Seeing the love that both of them shared, I made sure to pay attention to such details and was very diligent in capturing important moments that will forever be looked at and cherished. 

Being a photojournalist for the Oklahoma Daily and Features Yearbook at the University of Oklahoma (GO SOONERS!!!), story telling has been an important reason of why I’m very passionate about shooting because I believe that “Every image should tell a story”.

It’s not all about freezing smiling faces, but going above and beyond to capture the beautiful details and important moments that can be found in any wedding or lifestyle documentary I cover. 

For those wondering what in the world “PHOTOSBYSTICKS” means…..It comes from my other name “Mr. Sticks”. I am a drummer and the name has stuck with me ever since my friends decided to completely forget my first name ever existed. I like it though!

I recently got accepted into the prestigeous Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) and I am stoked!
