Tobi + Melissa :: Traditional Engagement Ceremony

September 17, 2008 | Engaged

I’ve been meaning to blog this for a while but haven’t had a chance too. I’ve gotten quite a number of request to blog some images so here they are. I’m a big fan of B&W images and I think they work well for most of my images. The processing is a bit different from what I normally do but I’m really liking these at the moment.

One thing about African weddings is the traditional aspect of the whole ceremony. It’s more of a big meeting place for all the family members from both sides and kind of tells a story of how the bride and groom both met. It’s a cultural thing and it sure shows a different approach to what weddings. I’ve been to so many of these that I know what to expect at any time but this one was quite different since the bride is from Uganda. It’s a pretty similar ceremony to Nigerian traditional engagement ceremonies but this one was quite unique with the way things were done. I saw the traditional Ugandan outfit for the first time which was quite interesting and very colorful. The ladies do give a whole lot of respect to their husbands and it was incredible to see how it all went down. There was also the groom going belly flat on the floor to pay his respect to the bride’s family and officially asking for her hand in marriage. Anyways it was a fun time all in all.

Here are a few to see:
